HUNTINGTON, N.Y. - February 4, 2002 - Telephonics Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Griffon Corporation (NYSE: GFF), announced today its integrated circuit ('IC') subsidiary, TLSI Inc., introduced the T231, a miniature, high precision, low jitter, low noise Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillator (VCXO) Clock Generator IC for high-speed SONET applications.
This single chip solution maximizes system performance for the precise transmission and processing of data. The T231 was designed for state-of-the-art data transmission devices where cost, size and power are continually being reduced as accuracy requirements are increased. Typical applications include handsets, routers, hubs, PCs, telephony and/or cable modems and set-top boxes.
Another in a series of VCXO ICs, the T231 was designed to exhibit excellent jitter performance and low phase noise performance (less than -140dBc/Hz at 100KHz offset from Fc). The integrated circuit utilizes a fundamental crystal to generate output frequencies from 100Mhz to 200Mhz required in high-speed OC-192/OC-48 SONET applications. Typical tuning frequency range is ±50PPM (crystal and varactor dependent). Differential PECL outputs are provided in the T231 to help reduce the effects of noise and distortion.
"The T231 was designed for low noise and high accuracy gigabit Ethernet and SONET applications," states Barry Eckstein, President of TLSI. "This device exceeds the jitter performance levels required for First Level SONET applications. We are working in partnership with key industry players to continually develop products that deliver performance, save design time, board space and power and still address critical pricing issues," said Eckstein.
The current device incorporates differential PECL outputs that are fundamental frequencies of the crystal while providing 50% output symmetry. Future products slated to be introduced include: a T231 with LVDS outputs in addition to a 650MHz VCXO IC (T622) that will incorporate both PECL and LVDS outputs.
Additional features of the T231 include: operating supply voltage 3V to 5.5V, operating temperature range -40°C to +85°C, power less than 150mW, start-up time less than 5 mS, rise and fall times less than 2 nS, nominal output duty cycle 45% to 55%, output drive capability of 5pF at 200 MHz and tuning input impedance 50k Ohms. A high performance version of the T231 (T231HS) will offer rise and fall times of 0.5 pS typical and nominal clock output duty cycle of 48% to 52%.
Availability:
Sample quantities of the T231 are now available. TLSI expects to be shipping production quantities by March 2002. The T231 is currently available in die as well as 10-Pin MSOP or 14-Pin SOIC packages. The T231 is priced at $2.70 in quantities of 1,000. For volume pricing consult the factory.
