TLSI INTRODUCES TWO LOW JITTER, MINIATURE, HIGH PRECISION VCXO CLOCK GENERATOR IC'S FOR SET TOP BOX APPLICATIONS

Further Additions to TLSI's Growing Family of VCXO Clock Generator ICs

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. - August 25, 2003 - Telephonics Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Griffon Corporation (NYSE: GFF), announced today its integrated circuit ('IC') subsidiary, TLSI Inc., introduced both the T73227 and T83027, miniature, high-precision, low-jitter, low-noise, Voltage Controlled Crystal Oscillator (VCXO) Clock Generator IC's designed to address the need for low cost frequency matching solutions in the burgeoning set top box market. These single chip solutions maximize system performance through the precise control of the 27 MHz clock frequency required for the MPEG decoders used in most set top boxes.

The T73227 is designed to accept an input from a standard 27 MHz quartz crystal and allows the output frequency to be adjusted or "pulled" by a variable control voltage input. It's pin compatible companion, the T83027, accepts an input from a standard 13.5 MHz crystal and utilizes a Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) design to produce the required 27 MHz output frequency clock. The T83027 offers a pin-for-pin compatible alternative to the popular MK3727.

The latest in a series of VCXO ICs, the T73227 and T83027 were designed to exhibit excellent jitter and low phase noise performance. Typical tuning frequency range is ±150 ppm (T73227) and ±100 ppm (T83027), crystal dependent. Both devices operate from the nominal 3.3V power supplies becoming more and more popular in next-generation designs.

"These new VCXO's were designed for low noise and high accuracy set-top box applications where high performance yet low cost are mandatory," stated Barry Eckstein, President of TLSI. "These devices deliver high performance, save design time, board space and power and still address critical pricing issues. They are ideal for replacement of discrete component VCXO designs as well as higher cost packaged oscillators," said Eckstein.

Availability:
Production quantities of both the T73227 and T83027 are now available. The T73227 is currently available in the industry standard 8-pin, narrow body SOIC as well as the space-efficient 8-pin MSOP and is priced at less than $0.60 in 10,000 pc. quantities. The T83027 is currently available in the 8-pin, narrow body SOIC package and is priced at less than $1.00 in 10,000 pc. quantities. Both devices are also available in die form shipped in waffle packs. For higher volume pricing consult the factory.
