HUNTINGTON, N.Y. - September 30, 2004 - Telephonics Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Griffon Corporation (NYSE: GFF), announced today its integrated circuit ('IC') subsidiary, TLSI Inc., introduced the T98553, very low jitter, high frequency PLL clock multiplier IC designed as a replacement for high cost crystal oscillators to address the need for high performance, low cost frequency generation solutions in the growing serial data communications market. This single chip solution optimizes system performance by exhibiting excellent temperature stability, very low jitter and excellent phase noise characteristics.
The T98553 is designed to accept an input from a standard, fundamental 10-27 MHz quartz crystal or clock input and to provide a selectable output frequency in the range from 100-400 MHz. The device provides multiply ratios of 8 and 16, making it very flexible for a wide range of applications. In addition, the T98553 includes an internal RC filter that provides very low jitter characteristics and internal crystal load capacitors, which eliminate the need for external components. The device also has a differential LVDS-compatible clock output. LVDS signaling has become increasingly popular in high-speed data communications applications.
The follow-on to the very popular TLSI T98552 PLL clock synthesizer, the T98553 exhibits excellent phase noise performance (typically -120 dBC/Hz at 10 KHz offset from the center frequency). Absolute jitter is typically ± 50 ps and one sigma jitter is ±18 ps (max). Operating current (no load) is typically 18 mA. The device operates over a wide range of power supply voltages from 2.7V to 5V.
"This new PLL clock multiplier was designed for low noise, high-speed data communications applications where high performance yet low cost are mandatory," stated Barry Eckstein, President of TLSI. "This device builds on the market leading performance of the previous T98552 by delivering higher performance and still addressing critical cost issues. It's ideal for generating the clock frequencies typically used in Gigabit Ethernet, Fibre Channel, ICSI, SONET/SDH, Hyper-transport, PCI Express and Serial ATA applications. TLSI will continue to deliver the high performance timing solutions necessary to meet the needs of today's rapidly changing markets," said Eckstein.
Availability:
Sample quantities of the T98553 are now available. The device is available in the industry standard 20-pin SSOP (QSOP) package. (4.4mm x 6.5mm x 1.2mm) and is very competitively priced at $1.45 in 10,000 pc. quantities. The device is also available in die form shipped in waffle packs. For higher volume pricing consult the factory.
