HUNTINGTON, N.Y. -- August 22, 2000 -- TLSI, a broad-based mixed-signal, integrated circuit (IC) manufacturer providing silicon system IC solutions for a wide range of applications, announced the award of a contract from a well-known electronics manufacturer for a proprietary mixed-signal/wireless transceiver communication system IC. At the center of this radio frequency (RF) wireless transceiver design lies a mixed-signal IC with unique high-speed complementary metal-oxide silicon (CMOS) technology developed by TLSI.

The contract award is for the initial design and development phase of an RF wireless data communication transceiver system-on-a-chip. It represents the first application where TLSI’s enhanced mixed-signal ASIC wireless technology will be used to produce a high-performance, cost-effective, IC for the home wireless market.

This unique RF IC design will form the foundation of remote wireless data collection systems in a wide variety of applications requiring fast, accurate, remote data monitoring and collection. For example, this specific device will remotely, and on demand, accurately and quickly determine consumer utility consumption. This ASIC solution enables utility companies to realize multiple cost savings benefits from reduced manpower for data collection, more accurate customer utilization data and greatly reduced cycle time from data collection to invoice. Real-time consumer utilization allows for multi-tiered or peak/demand pricing structures.

With follow-on production expected to start during the first quarter of CY 2001, the contract represents TLSI’s new expansion into the fixed and mobile wireless industry.
